Sohrab’s attitude or Mahesh Bhupati behind Sania's engagement break?

Sania & Sohrab were engaged in last July but they called it off last week over compatibility issues as informed by his Sania’s father Imran Mirza. But according to our sources Sania blames Sohrab for the break-up. The 23-year old has said to her friends that she didn’t like Sohrab’s attitude and his verbal reactions post-engagement.
Though rumors are making rounds that Sohrab didn’t liked Sania spending much of her time with Mahesh Bhupati (well you can speculate whether its for professional reason or personal). But a source close to Sania was quoted by newspapers saying: “Though Sohrab’s family is definitely richer than Sania’s, there is a difference in the stature. This automatically brings in the lifestyle issues.”
Sania’s father has told the reporters previously that they were incompatible since they got engaged in July, as he stated: “It was very much a mutual decision. Sania has already said there was incompatible.

Sania halted by Francesca

Sania Mirza suffered her fourth successive defeat at the hands of Italian Francesca Schiavone in a straight sets mauling to crash out of the ASB Classic WTA tournament Wednesday.
The Indian lost 0-6, 3-6 to the fourth seed opponent in the second round of the $220,000 hard court event for a disappointing start to the season.
The world No.17 proved too tough for Sania as she struggled to get a foot hold in the match. Sania has never won against Schiavone.
Earlier, the Hyderabad girl also crashed out of the doubles after losing her first round along with Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual.
The second seeds suffered a shock 1-6, 6-7(6-8) defeat at the hands of wild card entrants Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium and Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.
Israeli Shahar Peer had an eventful day as protestors demonstrating her country’s treatment of Palestinians interrupted her second round match against Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova, which she won 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the quarter finals.
Peer was the subject of similar protests outside the Auckland Tennis Centre last year and on Tuesday.

Sania leads Indian challenge

Sania Mirza will lead the Indian campaign in the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group II competition as selectors on Saturday named a six-member squad which also has fast rising Poojashree Venkatesh.
The All India Tennis Association selection committee, led by Anil Dhupar, dropped Ankita Bhambri while retaining veteran Rushmi Chakravarthy and Sanna Bhambri.
The selectors rewarded Poojashree for her brilliant performance last year, in which she won four ITF Futures titles out of five finals.
The competition will held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next month.
Rohit Rajpal was appointed as non-playing captain while Enrico Piperno will be the coach of the team.

Sania Mirza back in business

Sania Mirza spent the first day of 2010 changing flights en route to Auckland, where she'll kick off the new year playing a $220,000 event, starting January 4.
The 23-year-old will play singles and doubles (with Virginia R Pascual) as build-up to the Australian Open. Next up is Hobart and then Melbourne, for the season's opening Grand Slam.
The Hyderabadi, who two weeks ago played Russian world No. 5 Elena Dementieva in an exhibition event in Kuala Lumpur - for her first taste of competition since October last - used her off-season well. She rested her troublesome right wrist and gave it medical attention and treatment.
"The exhibition in Kuala Lumpur was good match practice, it was a tight game," Sania said. "An exhibition is an exhibition, and you can only get that competitive because of the entertainment factor involved. Still, it was good to play Dementieva. I'm feeling fine, the wrist feels good and I'm looking forward to compete again."
Mixed doubles, played only at the Grand Slams on the professional Tour, gains a whole new significance with its inclusion in the 2012 Olympic Games. Sania, who won the Australian Open alongside Mahesh Bhupathi last year, will partner the Bangalorean this time round too at Melbourne.
"This is a great time for India to have mixed doubles introduced in the Olympics, given that we have Mahesh (Bhupathi), Leander (Paes) and Rohan (Bopanna), who is now working his way up the rankings. 2012, however, is still some distance away, and whoever I play with I think we'll be strong contenders for a medal. Hopefully we'll all be fit and ready. At the Australian Open, I'm playing with Mahesh, we just confirmed that. At the other Slams, I'm not really sure because ranking becomes a factor. At Melbourne, because we won the title last year, even if we don't make the cut, which is pretty tight in mixed doubles, we'll at least get a wildcard."
Sania, who'll play doubles with veteran Pascual this season, is increasingly focusing on her singles.
"I think for us Indians doubles comes naturally," Sania said. "When I'm on court for doubles, I always feel I belong there even without any preparation. I could play doubles even when I'm done with my singles, which maybe in another few years. Even now, I don't play a whole lot of doubles, but I still manage to maintain my ranking. This is the time I want to give for singles, that has been the goal right from the word go."
