Mumbai: Indian teenage tennis sensation Sania Mirza arrived here early today from New York where she made waves in the US Open before being stopped at the pre-quarter-final stage of the Grand Slam event.
Sania, who impressed one and all during her campaign in the women's singles and became the first Indian woman to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam tennis event, was whisked away in a waiting car on her arrival at Mumbai airport.
Sania, a former Wimbledon Junior doubles champion, whose global ranking shot up phenomenally from well over the 250s to 42 in the run-up to the US Open, was defeated by world number one Maria Sharapova in straight sets.
The petite Hyderabadi is scheduled to take a short break befor resuming her pro tennis career with a tournament in Bali, Indonesia.
