Andhra government to sponsor Sania's travelling coach

Hyderabad: Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza received yet another boost Friday when Andhra Pradesh government announced that it would sponsor her travelling coach for a year.

Sania's father Imran Mirza said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had promised that the government would sponsor her travelling coach.

Imran said they would continue with John Farrington who had joined Sania as her travelling coach six weeks ago in the US.

Reddy also handed over a cheque of Rs.2 million to Sania, who created history by reaching the fourth round at the recently concluded US Open. The cash award was announced Thursday.

GVK, Sania's sponsor, had announced in July that it would sponsor a travelling coach for six weeks.

"The coach charges $4,000 a week," said Imran.
