India’s Sania Mirza matched her best performance at a Grand Slam tennis tournament, moving into the third round of the US Open with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Italy’s Maria Elena Camerin.
Mixing excellent winners with elementary errors, Sania finally clinched the match after two hours and seven minutes when Maria put a forehand return wide on the first match-point. Sania had earlier entered the third round of the Australian Open in January.
